House Beautiful has highlighted Costco’s Borealis Murphy Bed, also described in the article headline as the “Illusion” bed, as a compact guest-bed option. The report lists a queen tri-fold foam mattress, pull-out side tables and a cabinet-style design, and gives a price of $1,099.99; current availability and pricing may vary.
House Beautiful has spotlighted Costco’s Borealis Murphy Bed, also called the “Illusion” bed in the supplied headline, as a way to add a queen-size guest bed without leaving a conventional bed set up full time. The report describes a cabinet-style unit with a tri-fold foam mattress and gives a price of $1,099.99; it does not establish whether that price or availability is current in every Costco market.
According to House Beautiful, the bed is made from wood with a laminate or melamine finish and is designed to look like a credenza when folded away. The cabinet includes storage, while pull-out side tables provide space for items such as a phone or a glass of water. Leg levelers are included to help compensate for uneven floors, though the source does not provide installation instructions or dimensions for the cabinet.
The report says the product comes with a queen-size, six-inch-thick tri-fold foam mattress measuring 60 by 80 inches. It describes the mattress as medium-firm, hypoallergenic and latex-free, with a cover made from 100 percent polyester. House Beautiful advises allowing the mattress 48 hours to expand after setup. The article does not provide independent testing or customer-satisfaction data supporting its comfort descriptions.
House Beautiful lists the price as $1,099.99 and says the bed was 11% off, but the supplied article text does not specify the reference price, offer end date or whether the discount remains active. It also notes that Costco products can be difficult to find at local stores and points readers toward similar alternatives sold through Amazon. Those alternatives are not necessarily identical to Costco’s model.
A Guest Bed That Folds Away
The main appeal is the combination of an included queen mattress and a cabinet format that can serve as furniture when the bed is not in use. That may suit households that host occasionally but do not want to dedicate a room permanently to a bed, including people using a spare room, basement or multipurpose space.
The price is a meaningful part of the report, but the $1,099.99 figure should be treated as the price cited by House Beautiful, not a guarantee of today’s checkout price. Before buying, shoppers may want to compare the total cost with other bed options and check delivery, assembly, return and warranty terms. The article does not provide those terms or establish how the product performs over extended use.

How the Cabinet Bed Works
A Murphy bed generally folds or stores away to free up floor space. In House Beautiful’s description, the Borealis model takes a less conventional approach: the sleeping surface folds into a cabinet that can function as a credenza when closed. The source contrasts its appearance with Murphy-bed designs whose larger cabinets may be more visually prominent, but that assessment is the publication’s design judgment rather than a measured comparison.
The report frames the product as a purchase to consider ahead of holiday hosting season, when households may need temporary sleeping space for visiting friends or relatives. It is a shopping recommendation, not an announcement from Costco. The provided material does not include a statement from Costco about a launch, a special promotion or changes to the product line.
““The tri-fold mattress measures 60” x 80” and has a high-quality six-inch-thick foam.””

Price and Stock Need Checking
The supplied report does not confirm current Costco inventory, regional availability or the duration of the cited discount. It also does not give the discount’s comparison price, shipping costs, assembly requirements, return policy or warranty details. Shoppers should verify those points directly with Costco before making a purchase.
Other details remain unverified in the material: cabinet dimensions, the unit’s weight, whether assembly is required, and how much space is needed to open and use the bed safely. House Beautiful describes the mattress as comfortable and the cabinet as discreet, but the report does not cite independent product testing or provide long-term durability findings.
Check Costco Before Buying
No follow-up announcement or scheduled product update is included in the source material. For prospective buyers, the next step is to check Costco’s current product listing or contact a local warehouse to confirm price, stock and delivery options. They should also review the product’s dimensions and setup instructions against the room where it will be used.
If the Costco model is unavailable or does not fit a household’s needs, House Beautiful says it identified similar styles on Amazon. Those products may differ in mattress, finish, storage, price and delivery terms, so shoppers should compare specifications rather than assume they match the Borealis bed.
